Kee Kuang Hai 纪光海, born 1934
Home: Nibong Tebal
The surname “Kee” is common in Nibong Tebal. We are Teochew. I do not know when did my ancestor come but I was born here and live here for more than 80 years. The Chinese people call this place 高渊* . Today 3 generations of my family still live together. The local people here regardless of race used to call me “penghulu” because I was very active in community work, e.g. the Muhibbah patrol unit, JKKK, Hungry Ghost Festival committee, temple committee… In the 70s, I started to organise free funeral service for the poor because I hope that everyone can get a final resting place. As the Chinese saying goes, 入土为安。For me, Nibong Tebal is home, people live here and die here. As part of the community, we have to help each other.
* Possibly named after the Kerian River.
